

Dick was born in Arizona and grew up in Paso Robles, California. He attended Paso Robles High School, where he was a standout athlete in football and track and field. He continued playing football at Taft Junior College, Adams State University, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In 1958, Dick was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army for 2 years following the Korean War. He was stationed in South Korea.
In 1955, Dick was introduced to Margie Barrett by his sister, Pat Millwee, who was dating Margie’s brother, Arthur Barrett. Dick and Margie soon began dating and were married in 1957. Their 68-year marriage filled with love and dedication became a lasting model for their family.
Dick began his career in corrections at the Paso Robles Youth Correction Facility before becoming a parole officer in Long Beach and Sacramento. In 1971, he accepted a position in Bakersfield, where he and Margie raised their family. After 29 years of service with the State of California, he retired from the Department of Corrections in 1988. After retiring from the CDC, Dick began working at Mesa Verde Correctional Facility and later joined the GEO Group Correction Facility in McFarland. He served as warden, taught classes and counseled inmates to prepare them for reentry into society until he retired in 1999.
Dick’s life was marked by service. He served as a trustee for the Rosedale School District from 1973 to 1989 and dedicated his career in corrections to helping others. He guided countless at-risk individuals in making successful transitions into society, often giving his personal time to those in need. Above all, Dick was defined by his faith in Jesus Christ and his selfless love for others. He served many years as an elder at the Pioneer Drive and Rosedale Church of Christ, devoting himself to sharing the gospel, teaching God’s word, and caring for those around him. His positive spiritual influence touched the lives of so many people which glorifies God and is a testimony to his faith in Christ.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Kay Millwee; and his sisters, Pat Barrett and Helen Green. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margie; children Rick (Deana) Millwee, Susan (David) Ormerod, and Mitch (Teresa) Millwee; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday September 27, 2025, at the Rosedale Church of Christ, 3011 Allen Road, Bakersfield, CA 93314.
