

Ruth Anne Acers Smith was born to Owen and Geneva Acers on July 30, 1936, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and passed away in Bakersfield, California on September 16, 2026. She grew up in Golden, Colorado, a small town she cherished and always held close to her heart.
On December 30, 1953, Ruth married Ralph Smith. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children. Much of Ruth’s working career was spent at Tenneco West House of Almonds. Never one to sit still, she later continued working with the Bakersfield City School District and the Fruitvale School District before eventually retiring.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, playing card games, and taking trips to the casinos, but her greatest joy was always her family. She treasured the time spent with those she loved, and the many memories they created together will remain an enduring part of her legacy.
Ruth and Ralph shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in January 2011. Later in life, Ruth was fortunate to find a dear friend and traveling companion in Jack Dowden. They shared a wonderful friendship and many happy adventures together until Jack’s passing in July 2022.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Geneva Acers; her brother, Stephen Acers; her sister, Mary Ramstetter; and her son-in-law, Bob Hill.
She leaves behind her daughters, Cynthia Hill and Kathleen Frazier; her son, Vincent Smith, and his wife,Toni; seven grandchildren, Matt Hill, Sandra Allen, Geoff Frazier, Shawna Smith, Lauren Parker, Bryson Hill, and Chanie Michels; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Above all, Ruth will be remembered for the tremendous love and joy she brought to her family and for the memories that will continue to live on through those who loved her.
Private services will be held for the family.
