Ruth Bedgood Tate, 94, of Bakersfield, transitioned from Earth to Eternity on October 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Allan Tate; parents Leroy (Sr.) and Julia Kellum, and Tom Bedgood, Sr.; her brothers Tom Bedgood, Jr. and Leroy Kellum, Jr.; and a sister, Carrie Bedgood. She is survived by her loving sisters Katie Johnson and Willie Bedgood; brother-in-law Curtis Tate; sister-in-law Emmalene Tate; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tate was retired from The Broadway, which was later bought by Macy’s. She was a longtime active and devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. H.T. Calhoun. Mrs. Tate also was a longtime resident on “P” Street.
Mrs. Ruth Tate will be lying in repose on Friday, November 8, 2024, beginning at 12:00 p.m. The services celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Both will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary Chapel inside the main building, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Rev. H.T. Calhoun will officiate. Internment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
