Sarah was born February 5, 1916 in Hartshorn, Oklahoma and on December 29, 2012 passed on at the age of 96 to eternal life in her sleep to be with the Heavenly Father, Husband, sisters and friends. What a memorable life she lived. Sarah was born to Thomas and Willie Stalcup and is preceded in death by her parents, husband Clem Humes; sisters, Irene, Leslie, Juanita, Wilma, and Wenona; and brother Jack. She is survived by her sister, Ana Mae; son, Larry Humes; and daughter Brenda Klein(Marlowe), all of Bakersfield, California. She had numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. Sarah was a sweet lady who never knew a stranger and when she put you on her prayer list you were there for life. She was a good Christian lady and lived her faith daily. In 1929 the family came out to California by way of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona and worked in the fields to eat and it took them one year to arrive in Arvin, California in 1930. She was employed at Cheevers variety store, Woolsworth and Bakersfield City Schools. There was plenty of Okie food on the table and we never went hungry. Sarah was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was always there to lend a hand in the time of need. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Evergreen Acute Care of Bakersfield for their kindness and support during her stay. Sarah Evelyn Humes will be forever in our hearts and will be missed but not forgotten. Private viewing for the family will be Sunday, January 6th between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Hillcrest and services will be held Monday January 7th at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary Chapel at 1 p.m. with graveside services following.
