Over the next 48 years, Sheri devoted her entire career to Mercy and Memorial Hospitals. At 16, Sheri volunteered at Mercy Truxtun as a candy striper, soon landing her first job in the hospital coffee shop. For the next almost five decades she steadfastly rose through the ranks moving to data processing, the business office, Administrative secretary and Human Resources, a department in which she excelled. Through hard work, loyalty and determination Sheri was ultimately promoted to Vice President Central Valley at Dignity.
After retirement, Sheri continued to enjoy her passions of gardening, decorating and forever improving the already beautiful home she shared with her husband, Marty. Sheri's idea of a great day was bringing home bags of soil and flats of flowers from the nursery and transforming her yard with beautiful seasonal plantings. She was also a wonderful hostess, generous in bringing family and friends together to enjoy good company and great food in the gorgeous setting she called home. Home was truly Sheri's sanctuary and favorite place to be.
Another lifelong passion of Sheri's was music, which included her love of performing vocals. It was music that brought Sheri and Marty together and not long after they met she joined "The First Echo," a band started by Marty and his fellow musicians. For several years Marty and Sheri and the rest of "The First Echo" could be found playing current hits and singing harmonies at local venues, private events and country clubs.
There was nothing that tugged at Sheri's heartstrings quite like the love of her grandchildren, Luca and Aria. The times they shared together were some of the most precious of Sheri's life. Nonnina left this world feeling a deep love and pride for "the babies," something she affectionately continued to call them long beyond their baby years.
Sheri's last three years were spent courageously fighting cancer and adapting to the life-changing outcome of extensive ongoing treatment. With Marty never leaving her side, she gave it her all and beyond. In her final days she was bravely matter of fact in accepting the inevitable. "It is what it is," as she would so often say. She knew it was her time.
No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart.
Sheri is survived by her husband of 50 years, Martin Comaianni; her son, Vic Comaianni and wife, Erica; her beloved grandchildren, Luca and Aria Comaianni; her sisters, Paulette Shires and Melissa Howard and husband, Jeff; her nieces, Leslie Pelham and daughter, Baylie Pelham; Erin Holochwost and husband, Andrew and their sons, Van and Cy Holochwost; Sydney Peterson and husband, Jeremy and their daughter, Kendall Peterson.
