Stanley Buller April 7, 1933 - November 6, 2013 Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Stanley Buller, went home to live with his Savior on November 6, 2013 after succumbing to complications from a rare blood disorder at Memorial Hospital. Stan was born in Bakersfield, CA on April 7, 1933 to John and Minnie Buller. He was the second oldest of three brothers: Norman, Kenny, and Roger. Stan grew up in Shafter, CA on the farm that his dad owned and operated. He attended Maple Elementary School, Shafter High School (Class of '51) and Bakersfield College. During junior high and high school, Stan excelled in track and field, winning many medals. He also won several 1st place ribbons for showing sheep in the Kern County Fair as part of Future Farmers of America. While attending Bakersfield College he met his sweetheart Arveda (Hedman) at a Youth for Christ rally. The two were married April 11, 1954 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Bakersfield, CA. Upon graduating from Bakersfield College, Stan entered the United States Army. Stan and Arveda moved to Havre de Grace, Maryland while Stan completed his active duty service. The couple returned to Bakersfield in 1956 after he was honorably discharged and built their first house in 1957. The couple had their first child, Craig, in 1958 and their second child, Kim, in 1960. Stan was hired by Pacific Bell as a cable splicer in 1956. He devoted himself to his work and retired in 1994 after 38 years of service. During retirement Stan took up golf and continued to run. He enjoyed meeting with his friends several times a week at cardiac rehabilitation and having coffee afterwards. While Stan worked hard all his life, but he always found time to travel with his family. Above all, Stan loved going camping with his wife and children. In his later years, he made many trips to Cambria and Morro Bay. In December of 2006, Stan was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder myelofibrosis, causing him to receive blood transfusions every two weeks for the rest of his life. The family would like to thank Houchin Blood Bank, CBCC and the many blood donors, nurses, and doctors who cared so diligently for him. Most importantly, Stan had the best care at home by his wife, Arveda. She diligently called blood donors and doctors alike to make sure he had the best care possible. Stan accepted Jesus as his Savior during his youth and trusted the Lord throughout his life. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and will be missed dearly. Stan is survived by his wife, Arveda, his two children Craig Buller and Kimberly Stock, three grandchildren, Timothy Adams, Stephen Buller, and Erica Stock. There will be a viewing at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary on Wednesday, November 13 from 4-8pm. The burial will be graveside on Thursday, November 14 at 9am followed by a service at Valley Baptist Church at 11am.
