Susana Lopez-Flud, affectionately known as Susie, age 62, finally succumbed to cancer surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. She was born May 13, 1956 in Bakersfield, California to David and Mary (Sierra) Lopez.
A graduate of Arvin High School and Fresno State University, she spent her career teaching for the Bakersfield City School District. As a passionate educator for over 34 years, she taught various grades with sixth grade being the best fit for her talents. Being a teacher, she encouraged literacy. The one thing everyone could count on as a gift was a book with a special message written inside, her favorite being the story “Love You Forever.” She enjoyed the arts, music and dancing. At family gatherings she controlled the music, where she’d play her favorite artists over and over. The pride in her culture enabled her to share the love of folkloric dancing with her daughters and granddaughter, Stephanie. Sewing was another hobby where she showcased her talents creating numerous dance and Halloween costumes, each with her signature flair. Always dressed to the nines, fashion and accessories were her weakness. If it sparkled, Susie added it to her wardrobe. If only her daughters wore a smaller size, they would have a lovely shoe collection. Her grandchildren were her everything. She loved spending time with them, showering them with gifts and in typical grandma fashion, saying yes when their parents said no. Her beautiful smile, strength and giving nature will surely be missed as she was an inspiration to many.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents David and Mary Lopez, and her sister Sofia. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Michael, siblings David (Carmen), Bobby, Sandra (Alfred), children Susanna (Jose), Joebrian (Jennifer), David (Rene), Crystal, 7 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing and rosary will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Augustine Church, Lamont. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in the Garden of Lasting Memories.
