Thurman Rogers Hayslett

Thurman R. Hayslett 1914 - 2011 Thurman R. Hayslett was born in Virginia on June 13, 1914 to James and Hulda Mae Hayslett. Weeks after his birth his parents moved the family to California. He was residing in Bakersfield, CA when he went to be with his Lord on October 9, 2011, at the age of 97. Thurman dropped out of school after the 8th grade and went to work in the local grocery store in Maricopa. After only a few years of learning all the jobs, he became owner. He met the love of his life Barbara Carter, from Taft and they later married on February 28, 1935. Both their children were born in Maricopa before he sold the store and moved the family to Bakersfield where he owned and operated several grocery stores before retiring to Southern California in 1957. He enjoyed watching various sports and played baseball and basketball on city leagues. He loved camping, motorcycle riding, and working in his yard - but most of all he loved his family, church family, and the Lord. Thurman is preceded in death by his parents, all 6 of his siblings, his wife of 72 years, Barbara, daughter, Yvonne Thompson, grandson, Baby Boy Rea and great grandson, Matthew Hayslett. He is survived by his son, Albert Hayslett (Judy); 6 grandchildren: Thomas Hayslett (Celia), Brent Hayslett, Diana Curry (Rick), Rex Hayslett, Marvin Rea, Paul Hayslett (Susan Clark); 11 great-grandchildren: Andy, Chris, Heather, Mandy, Paul Jr., Amber, Jacob, Amy, Sonya, Justin, and Jennifer; 12 great-great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Kylie, Carson, Gavin, Preston, Michael, Bradyn, Noah, Ryan, Eli, Samantha, and Megan; his sister-in-law Lillian Hayslett and various nieces and nephews.
