Vernal Jerry Pigg

Jerry was born on October 14, 1929 and went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2012. Jerry grew up in the Rosedale area where he was in the FFA. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1947. He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Virgo. He joined the Kern County Fire Department in 1958. He retired as a Captain in 1980. Throughout his years he enjoyed playing golf and in the winter he was out skiing. After retiring from the fire department he worked at Kern River Golf Course. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and going camping every year which always included fishing. He loved being with his family and they will greatly miss him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Dewey Pigg, Nona O Kelly, and his step mother Edna Pigg; and sister June Sanders. He is survived by his wife, Glenna Pigg, his children Randy Pigg and Terri Thompson, and his grandchildren, Michael Pigg, Kristopher Pigg, Eric Pigg, Jacob Thompson and Michael Thompson. Services will be held at Calvary Bible Church on Manor Street at 10:30. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:00. Graveside services will be at 12:00 at Hillcrest Mortuary. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hoffmann Hospice.
