Master Gunnery Sergeant (Ret.) Frank M Kojder, 81, died peacefully in his Gardnerville, NV, home on June 1, 2021. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded National Defense medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation w/1*, Meritorious Unit Commendation w/1*, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal w/5*, Vietnam Service Medal w/6*, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation w/2*.
Frank was born on December 20, 1939, in Chicago, IL, to Frank and Estelle Kojder. Frank graduated from Proviso East High School in 1958. Frank earned his Associate of Science degree from Barstow Community College in June 1985.
In July 1958, he joined the Marine Corps and completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Frank served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and retired after 22 years active duty on June 30, 1980, while stationed at Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, CA. Soon after retirement from active duty, Frank continued his government service as a DoD civil servant at MCLB Barstow from 1981 - 2001.
Frank joined the Knights of Columbus on October 2, 1984. He served as Grand Knight from 1987 to 1988. He also joined the Fourth Degree on November 1, 1986. He became the Faithful Navigator for Joseph Scott Assembly 79.
Frank enjoyed RV traveling through the US and Canada. He was a member of the Sierra Hi-Rollers Chapter of the FMCA.
Frank is preceded in death by his father Frank A. Kojder, mother Estelle J. Kojder, brother Marvin J. Kojder, wife of 40 years Althea R. Kojder and son James M Kojder. Frank is survived by wife of 14 years, Deanna Kojder, three daughters Debbi McDaniel (Rick), Leslie Hunt and Jessica Murphy, grandson Justin S. McDaniel and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 2pm to 4pm
