GJordene June Yslas

Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on June 26, 1941, GJordene and her family relocated to Southern California, eventually settling in Barstow, where she resided for more than six decades. She worked in Repair Division at MCLB Yermo Annex for 36 years. During her time in Barstow, she became active in many organizations such as the Elks BPOE Lodge No 1920, the Loyal Order of Moose Barstow Lodge 1330, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 324. In addition, she was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and an integral part of Martha’s Meals ministry. As a Barstow High School alum, she became a Lifetime Member of the BHS Riffian Historical Society, and eventually joined the members of the Barstow Senior Center before moving to San Antonio, Texas.

GJordene’s hobbies included sewing, ceramics, and adopting stray cats. Favorite pastimes were watching old black and white movies, enjoying bun tacos from Del Taco, and collecting spiritual books. She was also known for her uncanny ability to hit that Royal Flush at Stateline more often than not.

GJordene was a deeply loving and generous woman. Her friends were like family, and she gave her family everything she had. Throughout life’s many obstacles, she exhibited patience, integrity, and courage. GJordene was the epitome of inner strength.

GJordene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth Dennis of Bonneau, SC; her beloved husband Frank J. “Baby” Yslas; bonus son Frank Yslas, Jr. of Atlantic City, NJ; bonus daughter Valarie Borrielli of Grand Terrace, CA; and former spouse Leo A. Luna of Hinkley, CA.

She is survived by her children, son Neil G. Luna and wife Laura of Austin, TX; bonus son Louis Yslas of Belen, NM; daughter Kristina M. Bryniarski and husband Bruce of Glenville, NY; daughter Stephanie D. Gallop and husband Kevin of San Antonio, TX; and bonus son Stephen Yslas of Santa Ana, CA. Also, included are her brother George B. Dennis, Jr and wife Kelly of Puyallup, WA; and sister Carolyn D. Budd and husband Wayne of Floral City, FL.

GJordene’s final resting place is next to her Frank at Barstow Cemetery District, Mt View Cemetery in Barstow, CA.
