02/21/1948 - 08/19/2024
Gregory Duane Hug passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2024, at the age of 76, at Calico Lakes, in Yermo, California. He was born in Glendale, California to Audrey Rose (Coughlin) Hug and Duane Edward Hug, and was the eldest of twin boys, by five minutes.
Gregory grew-up in Pacoima, California, and went to Beechy Grammar school, Pacoima Junior High School and graduated from San Fernando High School. He attended two years at Barstow Community College.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Rozanne Hug and his three children: Eric Hug, Rozanne Wille, M.D. and Kathryn Dowis, as well as his identical twin brother, Gary Hug. He was so proud of all his grandchildren: Mark Hug, Aiden Hug, Azera Dowis, Anaia Dowis, Hendrix Wille (Hendo) who passed away in 2013 from AML Leukemia, and Isana Wille. He loved and respected his daughter-in-law, Lorena Hug, and his sons-in-law, Arthur (Art) Wille and Hawkins Dowis, and felt that they were outstanding parents to his grandchildren. He always wished that his children would marry someone like their mother! He also has many nephews, nieces, and cousins; many of whom he taught how to water ski and improve their golf games.
Growing up Gregory played Little League baseball and in high school he played Varsity football. However, his real passion was playing golf, and was course champion twice at Tees & Trees golf club at the Marine Base in Yermo, California.
He married Rozanne on August 13, 1966, and enlisted in the Navy Seabees in March 1968. He served a tour of duty in Viet Nam and came back home in July 1969.
Gregory grew-up working with his father in the grading and excavating business. Later, he started a Construction business with his brother, Gary, in 1972, and moved to Newberry Springs in 1974. Gregory worked on Lake Jodie with his father, but designed, developed and constructed Crystal Lakes in Newberry Springs, with his brother. They also constructed Calico Lake in Yermo, California.
Gregory was a loving, loyal, devoted and generous husband, father, and friend. He had a wonderful, quick and funny "Irish" sense of humor! He stated many times that he did not have any regrets in his life nor would he change anything about his life, then he paused, and stated with tears in his eyes, that if he could have changed anything in his life it would be to not lose Hendo! He always told anyone who would listen that he was blessed with amazing children and grandchildren, all of whom he was so proud of. When Gregory was diagnosed with cancer he told his wife, "It's just another bump in the road, we'll get through this;" then added: “it's always you and me Kid"! Gregory's passing is a major loss to his family and friends.
