

Beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, Howard Burton Smith,
77, of Yermo, passed away on March 24, 2022, in Apple Valley, after a two and half year battle
with pancreatic cancer.
Howard was born June 12, 1944, in Logansport, IN. For most of his life he lived in San
Bernardino County, residing in Yermo. He served in the United States Army, Army National
Guard, and worked at the Repair Division, MCLB, Yermo as a mechanic. His hobbies included,
off-roading, woodworking, prospecting, desert conservation, hunting, and fishing.
Howard is survived by his wife, Judith Smith of Yermo, CA; daughters, Lisa Ruff of Royal
Center, IN and Denise “Dee Dee” Evans of Apple Valley, CA; daughter-in-law, Laura Smith of
Barstow, CA; brother Raymond Smith of Provo, UT and sister Bonnie Viloria of Parker, AZ;
grandchildren Justin and Brittany Ruff, Richie Thompson, Ezra and Elizabel Evans, and Hunter,
Logan and Bryce Smith; and great-grandchildren Colton Melton and Jay Ruff.
Howard was preceded in death by his son Howard Burton Smith Jr., his parents Vincent and
Bernice Smith, brother Willard Smith, and sisters Coral Myers and Katie Viloria.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 9:30-11:00am, at Mead Mortuary, 36930
Irwin Road, with Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
Memorial Service and reception will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 3:00pm at Silver Valley
Baptist Church, 520 Yermo Rd., Yermo CA, 92398.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silver Valley Baptist Church, Yermo,
CA.
