James "Jim" Willard Welsh

James “Jim” Willard Welsh passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on December 20, 1940, in Indiana, Jim lived a life marked by steady devotion—to faith, to family, and to the everyday work of showing up for others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jim was known for sharp humor, often delivered in memorable one-liners, and for a humility that never sought attention yet drew people in all the same. His warmth and presence were felt through his involvement with the church and the community, where he gave generously of himself. During the holidays, he brought joy in a special way—playing Santa Claus—and he was also known for making incredible candies, offering comfort and delight through simple, thoughtful traditions.

For 58 years, Jim owned the road as a professional truck driver, a long and honorable working life that reflected endurance, responsibility, and pride in doing things well. Yet, for all his years of work and service, the center of his life remained his family. He was always at the ready—whether it meant picking someone up from school or raising his voice in support at sporting and school events. The love he shared, and the memories made in that love, are part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind. Jim will also be remembered for being the "Gov". He was a role model to many and had a way of making those around him feel truly loved.

Jim is survived by his wife, Doreen; daughters, Judy and Sherrie Welsh and Patricia Evans;sons, Richard (Rommie) Rodriguez, Danny (Karina) Rodriguez, and Willie and Bruce Welsh Johnson as well as 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Morris Welsh and Flora DeBoor Welsh; his son, James W Welsh II; brothers, Durban and Charles Oakes; and sisters, Helen Gerhart, Barbara Pettigrew, and Dorothy Teepee.

Visitation will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church, 505 E Mountain View St, Barstow, CA 92311, on April 20, 2026, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am.

A Rosary will follow at St Joseph Catholic Church on April 20, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

Funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church on April 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Committal Service will take place at Barstow Cemetery District, Mt View Cemetery, Barstow, CA 92311, on April 20, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
