

Malina was a School Teacher with the Barstow Unified School District for 40+ years. She also was a School Teacher in Midland, Texas before relocating to Barstow in 1959 when she married Clarence James Piper who was a School Teacher at Camp Irwin while in the army who also became a school teacher in our beautiful Barstow community for 40+ years.
Malina graduated from Houston Tillison College in Austin, Texas and California Riverside with a Master’s Degree. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Houston Tillison College. She received numerous achievements and awards while teaching and she made an impact with many students for her love and passion of teaching. She filled her classroom with joy and she carried this love home to her family daily. She was an awesome Creole cook with her many dishes that we try our best to re-create.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Harrison Braxton, her husband Clarence James Piper, Sisters, Nellie Rivers and Edith Reed. Brothers, Roger Braxton, Jeff Braxton and Arceneaux Braxton.
Survivors include her son Jerry Jose Piper of Barstow, daughter in law Darlene Piper, granddaughters Jennifer Piper and Daniel Robinson of Las Vegas, NV; Jerika Cordova-Piper and husband Jarrod Cordova of Barstow and grandson Jerry Jose Piper, Jr and wife Hannah Piper. Grandchildren, Kaydence and Janelle Cordova; Jurnee Robinson and Xavier Gallegos and Kai Piper of Barstow. Sisters Nora Lee Johson of Atlanta, GA and Getsy Marie Davis of Houston, Texas.
A private family interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetary on Dec 22nd.
The family would like to thank everyone for so much love received during our loss and the many stories shared about when she taught at Montara Elementary School. Her faith and love of our Lord and Savior was solid and instilled the word of God in her family.
