Marianne Royster February 8, 1931 – September 3, 2017 Marianne was born in Bad Homburg Gonzenheim Germany the second of four girls to Johann and Maria Bein. At the age of 18, sitting at the unemployment office, Marianne met a young lady from England looking to hire a Chef apprentice to work for a royal family. Being the adventurous type, Marianne, fearless and up to any challenge, took the job and in two days was off to England. 10 years of service in England and ready for her next adventure Marianne decided she wanted to go to America. Because of her excellence in her trade she was welcomed by the Beanudee’s, a prominate and highly respected family in St. Louis Missouri, as their chef. Meanwhile her younger sister Hilde had met a soldier boy, married and moved to the deserts of California. The sisters decided that Marianne should come and stay in Barstow and start another chapter. That’s exactly what she did. Here, she met a handsome soldier, Earnest Royster, and became a military wife. Together they were blessed with two sons, John Felton, and Woodrow Carson. Marianne then became an at home mother. After raising her sons, and the death of her husband, Marianne went back to her trade of Chef. She was instrumental in building up the outstanding reputation of “Peggy Sues Diner”, making it the pit stop between Barstow and Las Vegas. She later became the pie lady which again elevated the reputation of the restaurant. After 34 years Marianne retired from Peggy Sues to spend more time with her family and her church. Marianne was devoted and very active in her church community becoming a member of St. Joseph Church in 1963, singing Gods praises in choir for 54 years. She participated in prayer and worship groups, marthas kitchen and attended Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 1:00 am almost nightly. To her immediate family, Marianne was known as “Tana”. She is survived by her sons John and Woody, her sisters Hilde and Inge, granddaughters Ariel and Christianna, grandsons Eric, Arash and Arion, Nieces Virginia and Carolyn, Nephews James and Jerry, grandnephews Richard, and Danny, grandnieces Sadie and Brittany as well as great grandnieces and nephews, Troy, Dylan, Aria and Sutton and a very special family member Mimp Hawkins. Marianne loved her “God”, Blessed Mother, her faith and her wonderful family and friends. She requests that all that attend her “Celebration of Life” wear bright colors and happy hearts.
