Paula T. Fulghum (78) Resident of Barstow, CA. for 39 yrs. Passed away Saturday Dec. 1, 2018 at Riverside Community Hospital. Paula’s story began in Globe, AZ. on Jan. 15, 1940. Born the daughter of Roberto and Amalia Tarango. Paula’s Father tragically passed away when she was only two yrs. old and Amalia, widowed with four children, moved her parents, Manuel and Felicitas Ribas and her children to San Diego, CA. She worked and raised her children with the help of Paula’s Grandparents. At the age of 17 Paula had to drop out of high school to nurse her mother after uterine cancer.
Paula is survived by her Husband, Charles F. Fulghum, who she married on May 10, 1958 in San Diego, CA. where Charles had just completed his service in the Navy and began a lifelong love story with Paula, his soulmate, that would last for 60 yrs. Paula is survived by her two children (Frank) Charles F. Fulghum, Jr. of Redlands, CA. and (Mel) Romelia I.A. Bellah of Costa Mesa, CA. Paula and Charles decided to start their Family in Oakland, CA. When Paula’s children were old enough, she went back to school and finished the classes needed to receive her high school diploma. Paula followed that up with classes needed for her to apply and get a civil service position, starting at HEW (Clerk Typist) in San Francisco, CA., moving up to a level GS5 position for the US Navy on Treasure Island then followed that up with a GS5 position at Lockheed Aircraft in Merrieta, GA., and was presented with a certificate for the work she did for the project she worked on. Paula finished in a position at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Barstow, CA. where she retired from her career in Civil Service. Paula wasn’t done though, she worked for a small period of time at Bingo Truck Stop, helping Charles set up a new life in Barstow, CA.
Paula settled into being the best homemaker ever. Her cooking is legendary in our family and she passed on a few special recipes to her son-in-law, Michael. That is when she found her talent in crochet. Paula was a crochet artist. She created many pieces that were amazing, tablecloths, doilies, etc.
Paula is Survived by her husband, Charles F. Fulghum, her son, (Frank)Charles F. Fulghum, Jr., her daughter, (Mel) Romelia I.A. Bellah, her son-in-law, Michael Bellah, her daughter-in-law, Julia Ybarra, Granddaughters, Jessica (Jeremy) Brock, Lara (Chris) Lamphere, (Charlie) Charlene Bellah, Ashley (Mark) Rodriguez, Jaquelyn (Tyler) Towers, Great Grandbabies, Conner, Rooney, Zola, Kinsley, Preston, Karley, James, Tegan and Victoria, brothers & sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, God-children and many, many friends through the Knights of Columbus, Bingo and all throughout this country.
Paula is predeceased by her Mother, Amalia Walsh, her Father, Roberto Tarango, sister Irene Enke, Brother, Robert Tarango and Sister, Veronica Silva.
Rosary will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Tuesday Dec.18, 2018 @ 10:00am, Funeral Mass also at St. Joseph’s Church @ 11:00am followed by a Reception @ Knights of Columbus. Gravesite service, Riverside National Cemetery Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 @ 11:15 Services will be Officiated by Fr. Gabriel and Deacon Joe Mooreman
