Born in Illinois, daughter of Ralph and Helen, Rose attended an all-girls Catholic school, graduating with her senior class.
Rose married Gene Best(✝️) at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Gene and Rose moved from Illinois to Barstow, California, where they resettled and continued raising their family.
Rose was a dedicated wife and mother, raising and nurturing five children. Rose and Gene became foster parents and continued in that commitment for 17 years. In the spirit of self-giving, Rose continued as a widowed foster parent for an additional eight years, where she cared for special needs infants and young children.
Rose was a dedicated parishioner of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barstow for 43 years, where she participated in and led the choir in service to our Lord for 30 years.
In her later years, Rose was an active member of the Barstow Senior Center, where she volunteered as an accountant, scheduled trips for the center, and hosted bingo. She served as a hospice volunteer for several years. Rose loved to dance, sing, play the accordion and piano, and spend time with family and friends. She is loved and respected by so many in the Barstow community and beyond.
She leaves behind her younger brother Tony (Sharon), five children; Gina Hernandez (Harold Hernandez), Jan Thomson (Scott Thomson✝️), David Best, Sean Best (Maggie Best), and Jason Best (Andrea Best); 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and over 200 foster children, many of which kept in close contact with her in their adult years. Her life and legacy will continue in our hearts.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Inland Valley Hospice Care for the tremendous support they provided us and the incredible care they gave to our mother through this difficult time.
