

Serelda Deloris Hurndon Peoples was the fourth of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Preston and Eppie (Gholston) Hurndon on January 5, 1921 in Cason, Texas. Serelda accepted Christ and was baptized into the church of Christ and was a faithful member in Barstow, California for over 50 years.
Serelda attended Carver High School in Naples Texas and continued her education at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas and later received her B.A. degree from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. In 1941, she met and married the love of her life, Clifton Peoples Jr. They eventually moved to Barstow and were blessed with the birth of a beautiful baby boy, Clifton (Pete) Peoples III in 1953.
Serelda taught for over 30 years until she retired from Barstow Unified School District on June 4, 1991. After retirement, she spent much of her time with her family. Her favorite pass times were watching television game shows and soap operas and in a later years enjoyed watching the Lakers and the Dodgers. Serelda enjoyed attending church, shopping, working puzzles and sharing her love with her family and friends.
Serelda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers: Morris and George Hurndon; two sisters: Emma Gene Wheeler and Anna Elizabeth Parker. Cherished memories of her will remain in the hearts of her son, Pete (Diane) Peoples of Lee’s Summit, MO: four sisters; Julia Lewis and Helen Evans of Mt. Pleasant, Murlean Scales of Barstow, CA, Bebbie Jones of Los Angeles, CA and one brother-in-law, Carold Peoples of Denver, CO; three grandchildren: Darrell (April) Peoples of Las Vegas, NV; Eric (Ginger) Peoples of Temecula, CA; Camille Joyce of Lee’s Summit, MO; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two special nieces and one special nephew: Rosiland Hargress and her husband Ernest (Bo) of Lancaster, CA who cared for Serelda for five years, and Lisa Delores Scales (Serelda's namesake) of Long Beach, CA; one aunt, Clyde Opal Rogers of Barstow, CA; and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends from near and far.
