Walter was born on June 4, 1944 in Los Angeles, California to parents Gerald Wayne Totten and Mary Esther Totten (Breedlove). He graduated Rubidoux High School in 1963, after which he joined the Army and served from 1965-1967. He was Kitchen Supervisor and served many Officers as their private chef. His years cooking in the Army led him to love cooking, and an understanding of foods and prepping them “The right way”. He was Fondly remembered for his gravy techniques. And his love of spices which he suggested to his many friends and family during BBQ’s and Holidays.
He spent his career working construction and was a member of Operating Engineers, Union Local 12. He resided in Yermo since 1995 enjoying his tenor at American Legion Post 797. He regarded the Legion as his home away from home where he spent time with many friends telling stories and solving the problems of the world.
Hobbies included hunting and cooking.
Survivors include wife Bonnie of Yermo; sister Donna Howard (Totten) of Arizona, son Travis of San Diego; daughter Carrie of Wyoming and grandson Cody. He also has many nephews and nieces.

Walter passed away on Wednesday June 24, 2020 in Yermo, CA.
