Alton lived with steady faith and a deep sense of duty, meeting each day with the honest, hard-working commitment that earned trust and kept it. In every role he held and every relationship he cherished, he was devoted and loyal, quietly selfless, consistently thoughtful, and guided by principles that never wavered.
He served in the Army Reserve for 10 years, carrying that spirit of responsibility into a long and respected professional life. Alton worked for 31 years at IBM and later retired from MD Anderson, building a legacy defined not by fanfare, but by reliability, integrity, and the care he took in doing things the right way.
Alton was married for 54 years, a love story that began when he met his wife at the Broken Spoke dance hall. Together, they built a family rooted in devotion and steadfast support. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter Tina and her husband, Chris; his daughter Shelia and her husband, Ruston; and five grandchildren, who will carry forward the example he set through his presence and his priorities.
The youngest of four children, Alton was preceded in death by his three sisters.
Those who knew Alton will remember a man who could correct you without making you feel small—offering guidance with respect and truth with kindness. His life reflected a rare balance of conviction and gentleness, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
