Garman, known by many as Gary, was born in Lakeworth, Florida to Frances and Garman (Pete) Martin Sr. on June 24, 1959. He graduated high school in Lincolnton, North Carolina, eventually completing his masters degree in criminology from Troy State University.
He worked many jobs while serving 20 years in the United States Air Force. The last job being special ops flight engineer on Black Hawk helicopters, in which he took great pride. After retiring from the armed forces he used his criminology degree with the state of Florida as a child protective investigator.
Garman is survived by his daughter, Erica Thomas and husband Steven; daughter, Staci Van Slyke and husband Brandon; daughter, Courtney Martin and husband Antonio; daughter, Kayla Martin; daughter, Robin Mikulec and husband Clayton; son, Michael Martin; sonx, Christian Martin; and daughter, MaKenzie Martin; eight grandchildren, Sterling, Kai, Henry, Charlotte, Peyton, Ryker, Salem, and Karon; and his sisters, Sandy Cloninger and Joy Morrow. He is
preceded in death by his parents, Garman Martin Sr and Frances Martin, and son James Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in his memory to Wreaths Across America (wreathsacrossamerica.org), a national program that honors veterans with a mission to Remember, Honor, Teach and carried out in part by the laying of wreaths on the graves of veterans throughout the year.
Visitation will be held at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on September 15, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Military Honors and Final Rest will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542, US, on September 15, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
