Over his many storied years, Henry helped build America one building at a time, leaving behind a legacy of homes: the apartments, the luxury custom houses, and the suburban hearths that families still gather around today.
An outdoor enthusiast at heart, he loved nothing more than his ranch in Texas. He was a man of great passion and a boundless zest for life, a lover of fast cars, of fishing and hunting, and, after his wife and best friend, JoAnn Algermissen, passed, a charmer who never lacked for the company of a charming lady. He was a storyteller of the first order; the tales he told at parties were retold and laughed over for years. The Dean Martin version of “King of the Road” was his theme song as he came through the door, and he admired Ernest Hemingway above all.
He is survived by his son, Henry “Hank” Algermissen; his daughter, Jayne Algermissen; his granddaughters, Jacquelyn Rhodes and Catherine Rhodes, whom he thought hung the world; and his sisters, Harriet Tuck and Mary Quartaro, along with their families.
In keeping with his love of the outdoors, his ashes will be scattered at the Texas ranch he loved. He will be much missed.
