

Kenneth Ray Basey, 88, of Bastrop, Texas died on July 9, 2026. He was born May 31, 1938, in Wichita Falls, TX to George W. Basey and Lottie Marie Lewis, who have proceeded him in death, along with one sister, Culpherna “Tootsie” Basey.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Renee, and his two sons Charles “Chuck” (Kathy) of Lampasas and Kenneth “Scott” (Christie) of Howe, and his granddaughter Paidan. He is also survived by his siblings Willie Lee Basey (Carol) of Florence, Georgie Basey Hassler of Pflugerville, and Wanda Basey Townsend (Louis) of Buda.
He enlisted in the Army July 17, 1962, and was stationed in Hawaii then Fort Bragg North Carolina before serving in Vietnam for two tours. He earned the Army Achievement Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Bronze Star Medal.
He was stationed in Fort Eustis Virginia before retiring from the Army January 31, 1990.
Growing up, he was inseparable from his younger brother, Willie, except when he was lost in the pages of a book, discovering new adventures and faraway worlds. As an adult, he enjoyed collecting knives and treasured every moment spent with his family. Fiercely loyal and devoted, he loved deeply and completely those fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be held at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on July 21, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542, US, on July 22, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm, with Military Honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542, US, on July 22, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
