Virginia was born to George and Juanita Ramirez and was raised in Rankin alongside her brothers and sisters. On December 17, 1960, Virginia married Joe D. Navarro II in Rankin. Together, they married and raised their family of four children in Joe’s hometown in Smithville, Texas.
Virginia was the matriarch of the family and a preschool educator for most of her life. She always had a love for children and cherished being part of watching them grow, learn, and thrive. Throughout her years in education, she taught many children in Smithville. After retiring, she continued raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Virginia taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren many valuable lessons and traditions and created countless cherished memories with them. One of her favorite things to do was dance. You could always find her and Joe out on the dance floor, and their love of dancing became a family tradition they passed down through the generations.
Virginia was also a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for family and friends. Her love of cooking allowed her to always open her home and welcome everyone with love. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her family, visiting both familiar places and discovering new ones. She truly glowed while doing the things she loved with the people she loved most.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving family. She is survived by her children: Joe A. Navarro III of Smithville; Joe Carrasco of Giddings; Jane and Clemente Navarro-Diaz of Bastrop; and Tanya and Chris Blanding of Smithville.
She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Alicia Guerra, Maggie Mott, Eloisa Torres, Ernesto Anaya, Eugenio Ramirez, Gilbert Ramirez, and her extensive extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe D. Navarro II; her daughter, Susan Carrasco; her grandson, Joe A. Navarro IV; her parents, George and Juanita Ramirez; and her siblings, Maria Caraway, Manuela Cortez, Marsial Ramirez, Frank Ramirez, George Ramirez, Roy Ramirez, Fidencio Ramirez, and Ramon Ramirez.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to her favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Visitation will be held at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on August 20, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Ascension Catholic Church Bastrop, 804 Pine St, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on August 21, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. .
Virginia’s final resting place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, 473 State Hwy 95, Smithville, TX 78957, US, on August 21, 2026.
Casket bearers will be John Frank Carrasco, George Carrasco, John Micheal Carrasco, Jacob Bandera, J. T. Joiner, Logan Navarro, and Bill Adams.
Honorary bearers will be Jayden Smith, Josiah Navarro, Maverick Navarro, Georgie Carrasco, Jalen Smith, Taven Adams, Joseph Carrasco, and Skyler Navarro.
