Zulema Reyes

Zulema Reyes, 60, passed away peacefully in her home in Bastrop, TX, on July 30, 2026. Zulema was a strong and loving friend, mother, sister, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by everyone with whom she crossed paths.

Zulema was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Albertina Acosta Almeida on February 12, 1966. As a young, single mother to five, Zulema worked hard to ensure that they were cared for and loved even through difficult times. At the age of 30, she met her loving husband, a U.S. Marine, who would join her on her many adventures around the world. Being a military wife meant a lot of sacrifice, but as with any hardship, Zulema persevered and cared for her home and her younger children. Her Catholic faith was a pillar in her life through which she forged lifetime friendships with members of the Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Católico in Temecula, CA, where she spent a few years deepening her connection with Christ and her family.

All those who knew Zulema knew her sheer love of life and her radiating positivity in the face of hardship. She loved to dance and sing, participating in multiple Mexican Ballet Folklorico groups throughout her life. Karaoke, especially, was one of her favorite pastimes and was sure to make her night if present at a party. Even greater than her love of karaoke was her passion and determination to see the beauty the world offered. From Spain and Colombia to Thailand and Peru, she always sought to have meaningful experiences in new places and learn from other cultures. Zulema inspired many with her love for travel and we will all miss her retelling of her many adventures. She also was passionate about serving her community and did so her whole life by participating in local groups where she was always quick to make great friendships and connections.

Her family and friends will also remember her love of plants and nature and the diligence with which she tended to their growth. This care always translated to her motherly love of her six children. Zulema loved and cherished each one of her children and was always very proud of their success. They remember her as an incredibly strong woman who raised them to be respectful, with a strong work ethic, but most importantly love for life and each other.

She is survived by these six children, Kipzya, Karen, Kenia, Javier, Kevin, Kyara and the five grandchildren she was so grateful to have played with and loved.

Though we hoped for more time with her, we will carry with us her strength and passion for life. We thank God for the blessing of having known her and we pray He carries her in his arms now and are glad to know she is at peace.

Visitation will be held at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on August 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on August 6, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church Bastrop, 804 Pine St, Bastrop, TX 78602, US, on August 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with livestream available at https://vimeo.com/event/6095939.
