

Mr. Arthur Albert Arceneaux Sr. was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. He was also a man who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything he undertook. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
He was the son of Geneva and Adam Arceneaux. Arthur grew up in Houston, Texas.
Arthur was raised with four siblings. He had four brothers, Bobby, Adam, Shannon and Vaughn. Arthur was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Arthur had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. He was a Boy Scout and sang in the church choir. However, to Arthur, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Arthur had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Worthing High School in 1966. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite class in high school was Math. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mrs. Gustie Houston. His classmates remember him best for his dancing.
Arthur enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Arthur was able to manage the balancing act. He attended Texas Southern University. His favorite course was Math.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Arthur enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Swip, Bighead and Nitty.
On June 21, 1975 Arthur exchanged wedding vows with Darlene Rice at St. Andrew's Baptist Church of Los Angeles, California. Empathic and loyal, Arthur was committed to making his new family happy.
Arthur worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Arthur was blessed with three children, one son, Arthur Jr., and two daughters, Tanisha and Shanee'. Another blessing for Arthur was the gift of five grandchildren, Samisha, Samoan, Jaylon, Alani and Aniyah.
Fortunately, Arthur enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Arthur worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Electrician. He was employed for 45 years in the Construction Industry. Arthur always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Arthur was an Army veteran. He was in ground control. Arthur saw action for one year and nine months during Vietnam. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of SP5. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Arthur enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were working on his house. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Arthur found pleasure in sports. In high school, Arthur played football. In his college years, Arthur continued to stay active by baseball. Arthur was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were boxing especially watching Floyd Mayweather.
Arthur was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. Politically, Arthur believed in Peace, Love and Happiness between us all.
Though he never set out to gain individual recognition, Arthur was given accolades for his many and varied accomplishments throughout his life. Some of his most prestigious awards included his military awards, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Arthur enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included "Vegas Baby!"
Arthur was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was E. T., a German Shepherd.
When Arthur’s retirement finally arrived in 2006, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in hanging with his children and grandchildren. Even in retirement, Arthur continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Arthur was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Arthur passed away on July 7, 2010 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Tanisha, Art and Shanee'; his grandchildren, Samisha, Samoan, Jaylon, Alani and Aniyah; and his brothers, Shannon, Junior and Vaughn. Services were held at Zion Baptist Evangelical Temple 600 W. Rosecrans Avenue, Compton, California at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 16, 2010. Arthur was laid to rest in a private family inurnment.
Simply stated, Arthur was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Arthur leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Mr. Arthur Albert Arceneaux Sr.
