

She was born in Bell, California, September 16,1931 to Edward Kent Seufferlein
and Hazel Ethel Harris Seufferlein. She was raised by her grandparents Jessie C.
and Effie E. Harris in San Fernando,California until adopted by her stepfather
Ira Leland Hamer, owner of Mission Motors in Granada Hills, California.
She attended San Fernando High School and Van Nuys High School until she
moved with her natural father to Cedarville, California. She graduated from
Cedarville Union High School in 1949, graduated from Fullerton Community
College, graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from the University Of
Southern California School Of Dentistry, and received her Masters degree from
Redlands University and attended Claremont Graduate School and Western
University of Law. She held a California community college teaching credential
in health science, physical education, and business and administration.
Jo Ann served the Orange County community as a practicing Registered Dental
Hygienist from 1954 to 1976. In 1976 she was named founder and director of the
Cypress College Dental Hygiene Program. She retired Professor Emeritus in
1993. After her retirement she became active in her husband's company
ChildCare U.S.A, Inc. developing and operating child care center's on college
and elementary school campuses.
Jo Ann married Lyndon E. Taylor and shared many years of boating, travels, and
RV trips through out their marriage. She had one son Jeff Philip Whitener and
one daughter Jodi Patrich Whitener Bole.
She had a love of tennis having played for over 40 years for USTA.
She had a special gift for gardening. As a youngster during World War II she was
responsible for the planting and maintenance of the family Victory garden. In
later years she became an accomplished water colorist, receiving many awards
and contributing her talent to the community.
Jo Ann and her husband moved from Yorba Linda, California to their home in
Sun Lakes Country Club, in Banning, California in 2004, a move that brought
beauty and contentment into their lives.
Jo Ann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
She was very active in the youth programs, Relief Society and the Orange
County Stake sports program. She served as Yorba Linda PTA president, co-
founder and president of the Orange County Dental Hygiene Association, a long
time member and competitor for the United StatesTennis Association, founder
and member of the Yorba Linda Country Club Tennis Association, president of
the Yorba Linda Women's Garden Club, the co-founder of the Yorba Linda
Friends of the Library, member of the American Dental Hygiene Association, life
member of the USC Alumni Association, first woman to serve as a board
member for the USC School of Dentistry Century Club, member of the Sun Lakes
Art Association, the Banning Art Alliance, the Pass Artist Association and the Sun
Lakes RV Club.
She was very active in the community arts, her husbands business and was a
reading mentor at Hemmerling Elementary School in Banning.
