He was proceeded in death by his father Robert “Bobby” Garcia of Banning. His maternal grandparents, Rudolpho and Antonia Moreno and paternal grandparents Santos and Vicky Garcia.
John is survived by his daughters, Rosemary Gonzalez of Cabazon, Elizabeth Contreras (Andre) of Banning, Vanessa Gonzalez of Las Vegas and Valerie Gonzalez of Banning. Grandchildren Angel Parra, Dominic Contreras, Devin and Avyanna Orellana. His parents Elizabeth “Toni” Gonzalez of Hemet and Ruben Gonzalez of Cathedral City. Siblings sister Andrea Beason (brother-in-law Ron), brother Adam Gonzalez, brother Ruben Gonzalez (Solmaz) and sister Angela.
John was born July 20th 1970 and spent most of his childhood living in Hemet. He was the eldest of his siblings.
He was a jack of all trades, a cook at Casa de Verdugo retirement home, labor, painter, trash truck driver and grounds maintenance for Public Works Dept.
John attended Canaan Assembly Church in Banning for 20+ years with his family. He was a youth leader, church usher, sung in the church worship team and evangelized on the corner of Hargrave and Lincoln during the church’s Summer Outreach Services, where he lead many to Christ. He participated in holiday plays and skits. He once played the main character in the “The Forgotten homeboy” as Sonny. He definitely was not shy.
His love for music, especially the Beatles began when he was young, listening to a genre of music his mom Toni would play throughout the house. He would memorize the songs, the artist and the year it came out. Another love of John’s was movies. He particularly liked old and horror movies but any type of movie he would ALWAYS have to narrate the entire movie to the people watching. It would always cause double the time to watch the movie or an unwanted spoiler to the movies ending. He loved to recite particular sayings of a movie or sing a portion of a song and ask others to guess what it was. He could retain from memory those type of things along with bible scriptures and so much more which was amazing.
John will always be remembered by his silliness, singing out loud in random public places hoping to embarrass who he was with, his dancing around the house like he was on a dance floor or him cracking jokes at others expense.
John was so proud of his girls, from when they were little to their adulthood. He would always warn them since they were young that every boy from Beaumont to Banning was a cousin, hoping to distract them from dating. But truly, John has so much family that could have been true.
The sparkle in his eyes when he proudly stated he has four daughters, was the same exact sparkle and smile he had when he first became grandpa to Baby Angel. He finally had a boy in the family! But that sparkle and smile grew brighter when he graduated to the title of “Papa” after the birth of Domonic, Devin and Avyanna, now that was priceless.
We’re thankful for the 54 years God lent you to us, to smile with us, to cry with us, to laugh with us and to love us, as we will always love you. You have made a forever mark in our hearts that could never be taken. Thank you for so many memories that we will cherish and hold close to our hearts.
