On Monday, November 19, 2018, at 9:53 am Joseph Raymond Renteria passed peacefully, holding his wife's hand after a 2 month hospital stay for complications from diabetes. "Ray" was an attorney who worked in a multitude of law fields, including teaching at local colleges (Intercoast and Platt Colleges) for para-legal studies, and teaching law at the University of Redlands. He loved to act, and was highly involved in local theater, but especially he acted in plays and musicals at the Life House Theater in Redlands for many years, where he was also an intellectual property lawyer (Administrative Project Director) for Wayne Scott, president and founder of Life House Theater. He loved to research and write Biblical plays, which he performed at the Church of God in Yucaipa. He was a fisherman, hunter, archer, teacher, musician, entrepreneur, writer, actor, lawyer, historian, investor, investor, collector; in many ways, a Renaissance man. We never knew what he'd be up to next. Above all, though, was God and family. He was very close to the two fine sons he raised, Joseph R. Renteria of Beaumont, and Douglas C. Renteria of Yucaipa. He adored his grandchildren, Isabella and Rodrigo (Joe and Cindy) and Angie, Emily and Elizabeth (Doug and Yadira). His best days were fishing with them all. He took his family camping often when they were young and taught his sons survival skills. He was the best husband I could ever have hoped for, and I will miss him until the day he comes for me.
Ray is survived by his wife, Judith D. Renteria, Cherry Valley; His sons, Joe and Douglas and their families, Reba (sister) and Frank Pease and nephews Brandon and Andrew and their families, and Paula (sister) and Matt Gabbard, and Paula's children Michael, Neena, Alexandria, and their families. He was preceded in Heaven by his parents, Margarita and Jose Ramon Renteria, his nephew Chris Pease, his in-laws Doug and Ruby Downer, his brother-in-law Craig Downer, and his grandson, Gabriel (Rodrigo's twin).
Ray will be cremated and kept by his wife until they can be buried together. His Life Celebration is Dec. 1st at the Murrieta Valley Funeral Home in Murrieta, CA at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, Ray has asked donations be sent to the Life House Theater in Redlands, California, in care of Wayne Scott, 1135 Church St., Redlands, CA 92374 909-335-3037.
