Born on April 5, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, Mickey was the youngest child of Harold and Margaret Kane. He was preceded in childhood by his siblings Kathy, Dan, and Tom. In 1966 his family moved to Southern California, where he grew up and began building a life that would inspire so many.
As a young adult, Mickey made a commitment to God that became the foundation of his life. His faith guided his decisions, strengthened his character, and inspired his love for serving others.
In 1986, he met Carmen and her daughter Yuri, whom he lovingly adopted as his own. Mickey married Carmen in 1988, and became a father to Nathan in 1991 and Kassy in 1993. Then in 2016 he became a grandpa to Elayna, and again in 2021 to Caleb.
Mickey earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton in 1986 and later received his Master's Degree in Family Counseling from Chapman University in 1993.
In 2000, he began working at JonBec, supporting developmentally disabled adults. What began as a profession quickly became a calling. For the next 25 years, he became cherished friends with his clients, and formed meaningful relationships with both those he served and the colleagues he worked with.
Mickey's approachable, adventurous and selfless personality led him to make countless friends over the years. From weekend hikes and ministry classes, to beach trips and gatherings at the lake, he always made time to get together with the people he loved.
Mickey loved his family and friends genuinely and deeply. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved traveling, hiking, playing pickleball, riding dirt bikes. playing his guitar, and sharing both classic rock and Christian music with those around him. He lived his life with faith, compassion, and a sense of adventure that left a mark on the spirits of those he knew.
As we say goodbye for now, we find comfort in knowing this is not the end of Mickey's story. He knew that Heaven is a promised home, and because of that promise, we know this is not goodbye, it's a see you later. Until we meet again, his love, his laughter, and the footprints he leaves behind will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things"
Philippians 4:8
We are deeply grateful to our family and friends for celebrating the wonderful life of Mickey. Your beautiful stories, shared memories, and faithful prayers have brought immense comfort and light to our hearts during this difficult time.
