Rene C. Munar was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather (Lolo), uncle, and friend. Rene was called home to heaven, unexpectedly but peacefully on April 16, 2024 at the age of 85 with his devoted wife, Zorina by his side.
Rene was born to Verbo Munar and Corazon Casis Munar on July 9, 1938 in the Philippines. Growing up in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines; Rene shared his childhood as the oldest of five siblings; Tony, Barbara, Nandy, and Manolo. He attended high school at the University of the Philippines.
Rene married his loving wife, Zorina Malana on November 18, 1963 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Quezon City, Philippines, and their 60 beautiful years together were filled with love and joy. Together they raised two sons, Anthony and Patrick, and are blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Charlize and Ethan.
Rene’s academic journey led him to National University in Manila, Philippines where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1963. He would go on to earn his professional engineering license. His civil engineering career led him to many successful opportunities around the world including the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan; Guam, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Louisiana, Seattle, Washington; Pasadena, California; and Carlsbad, California. He settled and raised his family in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Throughout his career, Rene exhibited dedication and professionalism before his retirement at 65, but amazingly, he would go back to work as he felt he had more to contribute to the profession of engineering until the age of 75.
Rene’s upbeat and positive nature was contagious. Rene took every opportunity to make a joke just to make the people around him laugh and smile. His happiest moments were with his two grandchildren spending quality time together.
Rene is survived by his wife, Zorina, children: Anthony (Lourdes) and Patrick (Nadia), grandchildren: Charlize and Ethan, and brother, Tony. He will forever be cherished and remembered as a devoted, funny, loving, and hard-working man.
A celebration of life for Rene will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 3510 E. Washington St., Colton, CA 92324. Following the celebration of life will be a reception at 5:00 PM at Rui's Shanghai Bistro, 405 W. Stuart Ave, Redlands, CA.
