Robert was the typical all american boy with a paper route and a member of the Boy Scouts. He played sports in high school as well as being in the band of Lester Oaks at Poly High. Robert enlisted in the military while going to Riverside City College and was sent off to the Korean war. He made Sargeant after serving with the First Marine Division and when he returned home after four years, he went to work for the Press-Enterprise, where he printed the paper for 21 years. He was involved in Little League for many years and was one of the volunteers who built Reid Park baseball grounds from cow pasture. He followed his girls in softball and his boys in baseball and wrestling. He was so proud of his family and loved to take them camping and fishing. He also enjoyed teaching the grandkids how to play chess and was delighted when they could beat him.
When leaving the newspaper and Riverside he enjoyed a second career as a respected Broker in Real Estate in Hemet, California. When he retired, he and his wife spent a few years traveling in a motor home. They then worked another seven years as Managers in a Senior community, until he became too ill and had to fully retire. Robert suffered from Lewy Body Dementia, a disease much like Alzheimers.
Robert leaves his wife of 59 years, Gaby and four children; Ted Holmes, Lorri Murphy, Sally Aspril and Stanley Holmes. He also has 10 wonderful grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, he loved so very much along with his sister, Sharon Lanier. He loved his family, his little dog, Wimbley, his country and his God. He was funny and true and good. He will be missed until we see him again.
