November 8, 2025 • Age 98
Roberta H. Giles, beloved mother, sister, stepmother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the remarkable age of 98.
A proud third-generation Californian, Roberta carried her heritage with deep affection. She often said that her life truly began when she met and, in June of 1976, married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” E. Giles. Their marriage brought her immeasurable joy, partnership, and adventure. Together they built a blended family—one that affectionately resembled a modern-day Brady Bunch—and a life rich with love, humor, and unforgettable memories.
After marrying, Roberta and Chuck moved to Sun Lakes Country Club in early 1989, where they embraced the warmth of an active retirement community. There, they surrounded themselves with dear friends and immersed themselves in golf, bridge leagues, bocce ball, bowling, and countless social gatherings. Sun Lakes became their haven, a place filled with laughter, connection, and a lifetime of stories.
Roberta was preceded in death by her brother Rhio, her sister Hazel, her son Rocky, her stepson Scott, and many other beloved family members whose loss she carried tenderly throughout her years.
She leaves behind her devoted sister and closest lifelong companion, Hobraigh (“Hobie”), her son Robert, her daughter Rochelle, her stepson Chuck Jr., and her stepdaughter Rebecca, along with an extended and loving family of spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren far too numerous to list—but each one deeply cherished.

Above all, Roberta was a devoted and extraordinary mother. Unable to have children of her own, she chose adoption and lovingly raised her three children—Rocky, Robert, and Rochelle—each one handpicked and deeply treasured. She often reminded them that “you may not be of my blood and bones, but you were chosen,” a sentiment that shaped their lives forever. Her children consider themselves, just as she always said, “the three luckiest kids on the planet.”
Her bond with her sister, Hobraigh, was one of the defining relationships of her life. They shared nearly a century of closeness—growing up together, raising families side by side, and remaining fiercely devoted to one another until Roberta’s final day. Their connection is one that even death cannot diminish.
Roberta was, simply put, extraordinary: gracious, sharp-witted, deeply loving, loyal, and endlessly resilient. Those who knew her were blessed; those who loved her were transformed.
Her legacy is one of love, strength, family, and the countless lives she touched along the way. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
