Roderick James Calhoun was born on March 21, 1961 to Mary E &.Raymond Calhoun in San Diego, Ca. At a young age he moved to Long Beach, Ca where he grew up and graduated from Poly High. As teenager Rod was one of the original break dancers, dancing with the original Electric Boogaloo. In 1981 Rod was blessed with a handsome son named Jacare Calhoun.
On April 9, 1994 Rod married his best friend and the love of his life Karol Ballard, together they were blessed with a beautiful daughter Sarah Calhoun.
Rod had an extensive work history. He started working for Leggett and King Mortuary in Long Beach, to doing security at Brooks College in Long Beach, Ca. From there Rod continued his work with law enforcement and went on to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Victorville, Ca serving over 27 years. After retirement, Rod became an entrepreneur creating and designing “Gotta Go” a male urinal device that is currently used within Healthcare and the Department of Corrections.
Rods life was a living example of Bible verse Ephesians 4:32, NIV: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
On August 6, 2020, Rod peacefully entered into the gates of Heaven. Rod is preceded in death by his mother and father Mary E. Calhoun and Raymond Calhoun; sister Catherine Cook and sister-in-law Elaine Harris
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Karol Calhoun, son Jacare Calhoun and daughter Sarah Calhoun of Beaumont, Ca; three brothers Michael Baker; Roy Calhoun-Taylor, Primus “Danny” Jones (Veronique); three Sisters Kathy Brown, Carolyn Gray (Duret) and Michelle Calhoun; Aunt Emma Jean Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
