Tammie Evelyn McDowell of Beaumont, CA passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, at 7:03am, after a brief but courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma. She was born on August 7, 1970 in Stuttgart, AR to Albert and Cynthia Green who were the best parents that a girl could have ever dreamed of or asked for. Albert and Cynthia instilled in all their children a love for Jesus and the Bible which is the biggest blessing and a priceless legacy any parent could give to their child. She loved them to the moon and back.
Tammie spent her childhood gardening with her siblings, hauling wood with her Dad for the winter and with her Mom in the kitchen, learning how to cook and can (with the exception of the Great Applesauce Debacle with her Dad). She loved band and choir and carried this love of music into her adult years where she sang in backup choirs for Steve Green, Larnelle Harris & Selah as well as her own solos in Christmas and Easter Cantatas. She graduated from Searcy High School with the class of 1988 in Searcy, AR. Her class of ’88 was so exceptionally supportive and prayerful in the many months before she passed. The same can be said of her club sisters (Tri Delta Epsilon) and classmates from Harding University (’93). Harding also gave Tammie one of her most priceless gifts, Jenny Peachey: chick-a-dee, kindred spirit, best friend, confidant and soul sister.
Preceding her in death were three of the fiercest, God-loving warriors that she had the privilege of calling Grandma: Thelma Davis, Ideal Green and Evelyn Dotson. Also preceding her in death were her beloved uncles Richard Green, Gary Bessey, Neil McDowell and Bob McDowell; precious aunts Doris Rapp and Olive McDowell; Father-in-Law John McDowell and dearest Mother-in-Law, Reba Rose Frizzle.
She leaves behind the love of her life, James (Jay) McDowell. They met in May 2003 and married on May 1, 2004. She helped develop his love of photography while he introduced her to all things Star Wars. They loved to hike the surrounding desert, take cruises and explore the National Parks. Although the word ‘cliché’ is often used, Jay and Tammie really did complete one another. He was the calm to her storm and encouraged her to look up at the stars and talk about life (or aliens). Jay was a package deal and Tammie became an instant “bonus” mom to Timothy. She felt privileged to take on this role and can only hope Tim knows the depth of her love for him and how she is so proud of the young man he has become.
She is survived also by the very best big sister ever, Stephanie (Eric) French (they shared a love of all things thrift); an equally very best little brother, David Green (oh, the adventures they shared); sisters in law, Barbara (Bruce) Miller, and Kiersten McDowell and brother in law, Richard McDowell; precious nieces, amazing nephews and awesome cousins. She is also survived by her loving and supportive Aunts: Sheila (Fred) Stansberry, Marge McDowell, Sara Jane McDowell and Anita Green Gordon; Uncles: William Green (Yes, the one that kind of looks like her Dad), Robert L Dotson, and Donnie (Colleen) Dotson.
More than a career and worldly possessions, Tammie considered her lifelong friends to be one of her greatest accomplishments and blessings: Brandon and Jennifer Peachey, Cynthia Hartman, Holly Penrod, Sean and Deanna Saunders, Donna Swinehart, Nikki Johnson, John and Kristin Lipin, Ross Anthony Housner, Jason and Mindy Hunt, Tricia Thompson, Tammie Brown, Aimee Lennox and Michelle Wells.
Tammie would also like to acknowledge the following friends, colleagues and family that have made this unbearable journey a little more brighter with your acts of kindness, your emotional and financial support and your never ending prayers. “Thank You” just doesn’t seem enough; if anyone was overlooked, please forgive and know that you are in her heart:

It Is Well - Horatio Spafford
1 When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
"It is well, it is well with my soul."
3 My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
4 O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;
even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain
Refrain (to be sung after final stanza only):
It is well (it is well), with my soul (with my soul);
it is well, it is well with my soul.
