

Beaumont, CA - Wayne Barton Hackney, 86, passed away on August 10, 2026. Wayne dedicated his life to his family, education, athletics, and his local community.
Wayne spent 48 years working in education. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher and coach, spending his first 26 years educating and mentoring students in Basin, Wyoming and Laurel, Montana. In 1986, Wayne moved to Beaumont, California, where he continued as a math teacher and coach for four years before becoming Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Beaumont High School.
After 23 years of service with Beaumont Unified School District, Wayne retired in 2009. His commitment to education and the students of Beaumont continued well beyond his retirement, however, as he spent the final six years of his educational career serving on the Beaumont Unified School District Board of Trustees.
Wayne was also a dedicated and active member of the Beaumont community. He participated in the Winter Wish Committee, supported the Beaumont Educational Support Team (B.E.S.T.), was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and remained an enthusiastic supporter of Beaumont athletics. He could frequently be found volunteering at community events, including the Beaumont Oktoberfest and Cherry Festival Breakfast. His commitment to serving others reflected his deep love for the Beaumont community.
After more than 30 years in Beaumont, Wayne returned to Montana to spend the last 10 years of his life residing in Bigfork, Montana, a place he and his wife had deeply loved. He remained an active member of his community, participating in events with the Bigfork Harbor Condominiums and serving a term on the vestry of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church. Wayne remained a sports enthusiast and also enjoyed cheering on Bigfork High School athletics and University of Montana football, Go Griz! He treasured his years in Montana and especially loved welcoming family and friends to visit, sharing with them the beauty of the place he was proud to call home.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Lee Hackney, father, Blufred Hackney; his mother, Irene Hackney; and his sisters, Edna Tuttle and Edith Roessing.
He is survived by his children, Don (Khana) of Ohio, Toni (Gretchen) of Arizona, Luke (Karynne) of Eastvale, California, and Dustin (Megan) of Temecula, California. He was a beloved grandfather to Jimi, Mia, Taylor, Julius, Harrison, Stella, Ryan, and Logan. Wayne also leaves behind an extended family and many dear friends.
Wayne will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to education, his love of athletics, his generous spirit, and his commitment to serving others. His influence lives on through the countless students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and family members whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Weaver Mortuary and Crematory in Beaumont, California. A reception will follow at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Beaumont Educational Support Team (B.E.S.T.) for the Wayne Hackney Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 261, Beaumont, CA 92223, continuing Wayne's legacy of supporting students and education.
