James Earl Redden, 68, of the Cool Ridge and Ghent area passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Charleston. Born on March 26, 1951 in Laurel Creek, WV, he was the son of the late Melvin Lovell Redden and Rema Flint Redden.
James was a member for over 30 years of Cool Ridge Free Will Baptist. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam War. Following his service to our country, he started his career with Martina Tile. James then furthered his career by working at Sterling Smokeless at Whitby, WV, Slab Fork Coal and at Beckley Coal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Lovell and Rema Flint Redden; and sister, Tammy Canterbury. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Terri McNeely Redden; daughter, Tina Redden Nixon and husband, David; son, Matthew McNeely and wife, Ashley; granddaughter, Sydni Nixon; sisters, Shelva Lambert, Mary Redden and husband, Roger, Bobbie Outlaw and husband, Ron, Jackie Lester and husband, Allen, Robin Acord and husband, Lendy, Kathy Redden, and Patty Whiteneck and husband, Dwight; brothers, Samuel Redden and wife, Connie, and Johnny Redden and wife, Claire; sisters-in-law, Vicki Keaton and husband, Larry, and Debbie Arthur and husband, Steve; brothers-in-law, Rick Runyon and wife, Jenny, and Jeff Runyon; his “fur babies”, Ginger, Boe and Kody; and his Church Family and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm, Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Gilfilen officiating and special music by Grace Parks. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Peace Garden of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
