Arneda Thompson McCargish, 86, of Crab Orchard, our loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 20th, 2019, surrounded by her family at home. Born April 8, 1933 in Winding Gulf, she was the daughter of the late Artie and Dinah Thompson.
Arneda had a love for animals and was an active member of the Raleigh County Humane Society. She was a member of Wesleyan Chapel, where she loved being a member of the church choir. One of her main joys in life was playing guitar and singing for her church family.
She was preceded in death by brothers, James (Bubby), Willard, Franklin, and Wade (Tom) Thompson, and sisters, Loretta Ford, Virginia Brooks, Betty Cook, and Carolyn Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Manuel McCargish, daughter, Rita (Joe) Baughman, son, Alan (Terri) McCargish, all of Crab Orchard. Granddaughters, Hannah (Jay) Roudebush and Lauren Dawson, grandson, Adam McCargish, great-grandson, Justin Wheeler, and sisters, Arlene (Ronald) Burns and Joyce (Roy) Bolen. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart and neighbors that were very dear to her.
Our family would like to express sincere appreciation to Kindred Home Health nurses Jodi and Kara, who we feel blessed to have had help care for our mother the past 2 years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their compassion and support.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Wesleyan Chapel, 830 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV, with Pastor John Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Pallbearers will be Manuel’s Masonic brothers.
Friends may gather with the family for visitation from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Wesleyan Chapel.
