Benny Edward Bailey
July 17, 1940 – September 21, 2021
Benny Bailey passed away on September 21, 2021, after a short illness at his daughter's home. Just like his life, he managed his illness with smiles and grace. He spent his last days surrounded by family and friends that he adored.
Benny attended Matoaka High School and graduated from Bluefield State College, played basketball, and was the class President. Benny owned several businesses through the years and later worked with his wife consulting before he eventually retired. Benny went above and beyond to ensure seniors were protected and cared for as far back as anyone can remember. Benny loved golfing and spent many years playing with friends where he lived in Jupiter Florida after he retired. He participated in many tournaments in both Florida and West Virginia. After he could not play, he shared the love of the game watching on tv with his children or anyone that would watch. Benny liked to fish, hunt, play guitar and cards but enjoyed being with his family on trips more than the actual sports. Benny loved animals and would often bring treats or feed them even if they weren’t his. Benny loved the children of the neighborhood and would throw pool parties that would last from early afternoon into the night providing his trademark drinks we all knew as Yoo-Hoo and orange sodas. Benny had a sense of humor that made him who he was. Some of his stories were true, others had a lot of embellishment, to say the least. He could always bring a smile to anyone around him.
Benny was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Eileen Joyce, his parents Alton and Clara Bailey, his sister, Wanda Stevenson of Virginia, and brothers, Sonny and Bobby Bailey, Brother-in-law Roger Hartwell, all of West Virginia. Survivors include Brothers Kermit Bailey, Doug and wife Debbie Bailey; Sister in-law Jean Bailey, and his cherished sister Karen Hartwell.
His surviving children: Pam Wilson and fiancé Kevin Trickett, Mark Bailey, Mike and wife Melinda Bailey, Christy and husband Pat Stafford and their mother, Geneva Bullard. His daughter with Joyce, Jodi and her husband John Marcello of Florida. He is also survived by his nine precious grandchildren: Steven, John Anthony, Sandra, Patrick, Mark, James, Rebecca, Alison, and Ashlynn also six great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews. Special friends who he adored include Rita and John Constantino and their children, Grace Jenkins and June Constantino.
Benny has requested that there be no services and his remains will be transported to Florida by his children and buried at sea with his wife, Joyce.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Hospice Compassus at 1330 Mercer Street Suite 1, Princeton, West Virginia 24740. Hospice gave Benny and his family abundant love and tenderness during the time he spent at home.
