

Brenda was born on September 15, 1946 in Beckley, West Virginia. Brenda was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County until moving to Alabama where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law who helped care for her until she received her heavenly promotion.
Brenda was a member of the United Methodist Temple in Beckley, West Virginia. She graduated from Sophia High School in 1964, then went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concord College. Brenda then furthered her education by receiving her Master's Degree from Salem University in 1997. She was a dedicated educator, serving the Raleigh County Board of Education for over thirty years. She had a true love for her teaching profession-especially in her years of teaching first grade. Brenda touched the lives of many young students and cared deeply about the well-being and learning of every child that she taught. Due to her immense passion for her career, Brenda was nominated as Teacher of the Year for Raleigh County Schools on multiple occasions, and won the noble award in 2007.
In addition to her joy for teaching, Brenda loved spending time with her beloved family and grandchildren, tending to her flowers, cooking, and caring for her pets. Brenda was an avid animal lover and especially loved her dog, Misty.
Brenda is preceded in death by the love of her life, Ronald Vaught, along with her grandson Tyler Vaught, and her parents, Charles and Edith Poe.
Those left to cherish her precious memory include her sons, David (Stephanie) Vaught of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama and Michael (Melissa) Vaught of Fayetteville, West Virginia; sister Charlene (Ron) Green of York, South Carolina; granddaughters Ashlee Muhlberger (Jason) of Flower Mound, Texas and Lauren Shrewsbury (Carter) of Shady Spring, West Virginia; grandson Andrew Vaught of Fayetteville, West Virginia; great grandchildren Brayden, Hunter, McKenzie, Wyatt, Weston, Lainey, and another due in July; as well as 5 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Brenda will be on Thursday, December 4th, 2025 at 11AM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. She will then be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park following the service.
