

Born on August 2, 1945, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Virgil and Valentine McNeill.
Bruce graduated from Glen Rogers High School and attended Bluefield State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam.
Following his military service, Bruce worked as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., for three years. He later returned to Beckley and joined the Beckley City Police Department in 1976. He retired in 2000 after attaining the rank of lieutenant and serving as the Chief of Narcotics for the Regional Unified Drug Enforcement Task Force.
After his official retirement, Bruce continued serving the community as head of security at Tamarack until 2016.
Bruce enjoyed hunting, golfing, and riding his Harley. He was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Washington Redskins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David McNeill, and a son, Christopher McNeill.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Cindy Langel and husband Paul of Fort Pierce, FL; and Brian McNeill and wife Denice of Atlanta, GA; as well as their mother, Donna Bierman of Fort Pierce, FL. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Andrew Langel and wife Sahar, Ashley Langel, and Amber McNeill and her son Stephon Henderson Jr., all of Fort Pierce, FL; as well as his sister-in-law, Susan McNeill of Gwinn, MI.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may gather with the family beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Bruce will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
