

Carl James Stewart was born July 5, 1928, in Prosperity, he was the son of the late Wayne and Zettie Wood Stewart. Carl was a U.S Navy veteran. After serving 6 years in the Navy he attended Morris Harvey (now University of Charleston) and became a teacher. He taught English and History at Marsh Fork High School before beginning a career with Social Security Administration in 1960. He retired in 1980. Carl loved Jesus and faithfully served in his church over the years as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a long time member of Gideons International. He served on the board of the Appalachian Bible College and the Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department. He worked many years on the reunion committees for both the Prosperity Reunion and the Wood Family Reunion. Carl was known for his generosity to those in need. In addition to his parents Carl was preceded in death by his 2 wives Iona Stewart and Dreama Blevins Stewart. His brother Paul Stewart, his sister Janice Stewart DeGregory and his son Carl Wayne. He is survived by his daughter Donna Kaye Tippets (Bruce)Morgantown, IN., Zettie Lynn Boyd (Gary) Prosperity, Gregory Dale Stewart, Prosperity and Wayne's wife Rachel Bollinger, Charlotte NC who is still considered a member of the family. Carl was a loving Grandpa to his eight grandchildren, Nathan Stewart, Amber Tippets Parks, Autumn Tippets Skeens, Aaron Tippetts, Jessica Boyd Mainella, Joshua Boyd, Christian Stewart and Gregory Stewart and his 12 great grandchildren. Friends may gather with the family Friday, May 26, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley from 12 - 2pm. Funeral service will follow on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Sizemore officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
