

Charles E. ‘Ken’ Covey, 78, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 in Richmond, VA from complications of Black Lung. He was born in Crab Orchard, WV on September 10, 1936 to the late Fred and Sadie Beasley Covey. Ken was a proud underground coal miner for 42 years, an outdoor sportsman, avid NASCAR fan, bowler, dancer and singer. He loved a crowd and being with his family. Ken was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Covey; infant son, Charles E. Covey II; brothers, Tom, Buford, Roy, and infant Fred; sister, Blanche Campbell; and daughter, Kathy McMillian.His surviving family includes his wife of 38 years Phyllis Ann Covey who resides in the family home in Richmond, VA; children, Debbie Shelton with husband, Michael of Beckley, WV, Karen Simpkins of Troutman, NC, Sonny Wix with wife, Brenda of Richmond, VA, Kenny Prince with wife, Goldie of Clairiton, OH, and Lori Causey with husband, Bill of Beckley, WV; sisters, Jo Fleshman of Beckley, WV, Lee Covey of Naples, FL, and Lynn Covey of Canton, OH. He was blessed to have 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Friends may gather at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Thursday August 27th, 2015 beginning at 12:00pm with services at 1:00pm. Rev. Mark Hatfield will officiate. Pallbearers are Kenny Prince, Kenny Wix, Michael Shelton, William Causey, Adam Causey and Ron Mills. Family will receive friends and visitors at the Dream Center located behind the Family Worship Center at 224 Pinewood Dr. Beckley, WV immediately following the services.
