Charles Thomas Hughes

Born on February 24th, 1956, he was the son of the late Thomas Hughes and Juanita “Edie” Church Hughes.

Charles retired from custodial work with the Monroe County School board.

He was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart and served Jesus fervently. He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church where he assisted as Sunday School teacher and Song leader.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially playing musical instruments and singing.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Jerry and Pat Meadows; brother in law, Gerald Meadows Jr.; and sisters, Dorothy Juanita, and Linda Hughes Agee (Johnnie).

Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Deborah; brothers and sisters, Dora Jean and Jerry Brown of Falmouth, Va, Katie and Allen Walters of Union, WV, Carl and David Hughes of Greenville, WV, and Roy Hughes of Gap Mills, WV. He is also survived by niece and nephews Susan Sabella and Josh and Ethan Hughes.

He will be greatly missed by a host of family, friends and all of his church family.

Funeral services for Charles will be on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 at 2 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Jim Rogers and Charlie Tilly officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Charles will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.

The family will serve as pallbearers.
