

David was born September 4, 1947 at Amigo WV; son of the late Peyton Bailey and Frieda Graham Bailey, he graduated high school from Mark Twain High School at Stotesbury before going on to serve his country.
David joined the United States Navy at age 17 during the Vietnam Era. His service years took him all over the world including being stationed at Coronado CA, Hawaii, and Midway Island. He loved his country and took great pride in the years he served. After serving his country he met and married his best friend and the love of his life, Peggy; December 6th would have made 56 years of marriage, and anniversary they both truly looked forward to.
He worked for GM Motors in Toledo, Ohio, later returning back to WV where he begin his profession as a police officer for the Town of Mullens, WV and Lester, WV until his illness. David will be remembered as a man of morals, integrity and fairness both personally and professionally.
He was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved WV football & basketball games, hunting, fishing, gardening and loved talking about his adventures in the service. He was the greatest storyteller to all the children in the family, and this was something they loved and passed on to their own children. David was a Christian and attended Madeline Freewill Baptist for many years until he was no longer able too.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Bailey and sister Joyce Bailey Blaylock.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Peggy Bailey of Beaver,WV; two daughters, Sherry Bailey of Beaver, WV and Beverly Bailey of Bristol, TN; one brother, Frank Bailey (Drema); five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Southern West Virginia and the home health team who so gentle and kind to Dad.
A memorial service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home at 11 am on December 3rd, 2025 with Pastor Joe Cadle officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family for an hour prior to the service. Those wishing to send condolences or flowers can direct them to the funeral home on the service date. Final rites will directly follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV.
