On July 4, 2019, the heavens opened wide and welcomed home our beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, soul mate and friend, Delaney Lee Wykle, at the young age of 22. She passed the way she lived her life; full of love, life, adventure and celebration.
Delaney was born September 18, 1996 in Beckley, WV to her parents Paul Lee Jr. and Paula Ann Wykle; and sister, Makayla Brooke.
At 22, Delaney was at the beginning of what would have been an amazing journey, that abruptly ended too soon. She had just passed her board exam to become a RN and was in a loving relationship. Delaney deeply cherished the relationships in her life, making sure family and friends knew they were everything to her. Delaney's contagious joy for life and positive energy influenced so many around her.
Delaney was proud of her roots in Southern West Virginia. She excelled throughout her academic career which began at Maxwell Hill Elementary, then Park Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School where she will be remembered as both an honor student and cheerleader. At West Virginia University, Delaney turned her educational accomplishments and lifelong passion for helping others into a drive to succeed in the nursing program. Upon completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree in May 2019, she planned to work as a registered nurse in Raleigh General Hospital’s emergency department in Beckley, WV beginning in August.
Delaney was met in heaven by her beloved grandfathers Ira Vandall, Jr. and Paul Wykle, Sr.; and childhood dog, Kansas.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Paul Lee, Jr. and Paula Ann Wykle and dog Marley of Beckley, WV; sister Makayla Wykle and fiancé Casey Young of Pickerington, Ohio; the love of her life, Tristan Cornett and puppies Maya and Kip of Flat Top, WV; paternal grandmother Barbara Wykle and maternal grandmother Minnie Vandall both of Hinton, WV; Aunt Angie and husband Keith Foster of Beckley, WV; Uncle Greg and wife Shirley Vandall of Hinton, WV; Uncle Alan Vandall of Apopka, FL; and Uncle Keith and wife Heather Wykle of Jumping Branch, WV.
Cousins and great uncles left to treasure her memory are Haley Lane of Hinton, WV; Heidi Vandall of South Charleston, WV; Bryce and Dylan Foster and girlfriend Kennedy Banks of Beckley, WV; and Brandon Tickle of Jumping Branch, WV. A special great Uncle George Gwinn of Boca Raton, FL. and Tristan’s beloved parents, Todd and wife Rachael Cornett Sr., and brother Todd and wife Chelsea Cornett Jr. and their children Layla and Joseph.
Delaney’s legacy of helping others will provide comfort and confidence to lead her friends and inspire fellow graduates through life’s journey.
Delaney was loved by all who knew her. Her glowing exterior was matched by the beauty she carried within herself. Her ability to push others to be the best versions of themselves was felt by everyone around her. Delaney lived life to the fullest; loving to be outdoors, on the water, attending concerts and enjoying every moment life had to offer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her; especially her soul mate, Tristan. “I love you to the moon.”
A celebration of Delaney’s life will be held Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium conducted by Reverend Monte Mitchell. Pallbearers are Todd Cornett, Todd Cornett II, Greg Vandall, Keith Wykle, Dylan Foster, Bryce Foster, Hunter Fansler, Jacob Young, and Brent Osborne. A private immediate family burial will be held following the service at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, WV.
