He was the biological son of Karen Jaster of Eugene, Oregon. He was adopted and raised by his dear Granny, Donna Belcher. Granny’s sweet boy is now seizure-free and wearing his angel wings proudly. As a kid, he participated in the Little League Baseball Challenger Program as well as the Challenger Bowling League. During his school years, he enjoyed riding the special needs bus with driver Wayne and aide Teresa. He remained in school until he reached the age of 21. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 2009. Members of the community will remember Derrick from Peggy’s Video as he spent time there with Morris and Peggy Niday helping with the video rental store.
Derrick enjoyed all of Granny’s attention. They liked spending time together watching television. He was fond of talking to loved ones on the telephone and was particularly happy when Uncle Paul told jokes to make him laugh. Derrick was really good at blowing kisses.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Jacqueline Malee Blake, great-uncle and aunt Sam and Betty Flanagan, sister, Jaquelyn Nicole Jaster, and aunt Belinda J. “Mams” Flanagan. Survivors include his sister Madison Chimenti of Eugene, Oregon; Joey Jaster and nephews Jariya, Tristen, and Kiaen Jones of Spring Grove, MN; uncle and caregiver Paul H. Flanagan of Sophia, WV; and extended family: La Donna Flanagan Lokant and her husband Frank, Kennedy, and Trevor James, Paul H.
