Edith "Edie" Catherine Mullins

Edith “Edie” Catherine Mullins, 81, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on September 6, 2026, following a catastrophic hemorrhagic brain bleed. She was born on June 8, 1945, in Philippi, West Virginia.

Edie was a devoted wife to her husband, Woodrow Wayne Mullins, whom she met at Camp Thomas E. Lightfoot in 1964 and married in 1967. To celebrate her life, she is survived by her husband; her loving children, Layne Mullins (Dee), Julie Mullins (Chris Cornor), and Shane Mullins (Christy); her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Mullins, Zachary Cornor, Mallory Mullins, Taylor Cornor, Reagan Cornor, Hannah McCarty (Ernie McCarty), Rachel Ring, and Adysen Ring; her sister, Carolyn Turner (Larry Turner); and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Emmanuel McCarty, and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her father, Evert Phillips, and her mother, Mary Phillips Mayle.

A retired schoolteacher with the Raleigh County Board of Education, Edie dedicated her life to educating and caring for others. Her kindness, patience, and compassion left a lasting impact on the many students whose lives she touched.

Edie was a member and faithful servant at Northgate Baptist Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart and lived her life as a reflection of that faith—generous, caring, and always willing to help those in need.

She found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, who were the center of her world. Edie loved baking and cooking for her family, fishing, sewing, working crossword puzzles, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching the races in Beckley, spending time with family and friends at Myrtle Beach, and especially treasured her mornings spent drinking coffee with her dear friend, Dovie Peters.

Edie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched everyone who knew her.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on September 12, 2026, at Northgate Baptist Church, 301 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, West Virginia. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place immediately after the visitation and will be officiated by Pastor Josh Johnson. A graveside service will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Following the service at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to attend a meal and fellowship to celebrate her life at Northgate Baptist Church.

Her favorite Bible verses included Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” and Philippians 4:6, often expressed by her as, “If something is worth worrying about, it’s worth praying about.”

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
