Born October 18, 1927, in Beckley, WV, Ellen will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew her. Ellen was beloved and cherished for the quiet steadiness of her presence—compassionate in the ways that mattered most, honest in word and deed, and gentle in spirit. Her kind-hearted nature was felt in the care she extended to others and in the warmth with which she held her family and friends close.
A gifted seamstress, Ellen was a wonder when it came to anything requiring fabric and needle. She was famously able to sew a dress in just about 15 minutes, a testament to both her skill and her practiced hands. She also excelled in cross-stitch and needlepoint, creating several pieces of her own and gifting many to friends, family, and loved ones—stitching beauty, patience, and care into every work. Her love of sewing was outshined only by the love she held for her family. Her late husband, Gene W. Stover, and her children, Wilma and Patricia, were the light of her life. Coming from a large family, she valued the connections and friendships that family provides, holding those bonds with sincere devotion.
Preceding her in death are her father and stepmother, Frederick T. Damron and Laura Damron; her husband, Gene Stover; daughter, Wilma Hall; brother, Buck Damron; sisters, Katherine Workman and Ann "Poochie" Daniels; as well as many extended family members and friends. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Patricia "Trish" Brown; brothers, Howard Kenneth Damron, Terry Damron, and Danny Damron; sister, Jacklyn O'Neal; granddaughters, Michelle Starrs and Kristine Jones; great-grandchildren, Joseph Starrs, Kevin Starrs Jr., Colleen Starrs, Caitlyn Starrs, Brenden Jones, and Kyle Jones; as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
Services pastored by her brothers, Howard, Terry and Danny, will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home of Beckley, WV, on Monday May 4th, at 2pm. Friends are invited to join the family to offer condolences and share memories and stories beginning at 1pm for the hour prior to services. After the services she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
